Family Medicine Residency Program — Basic Orientation

Rotation Requirements

medical students and doctors
  1. Complete and submit the following forms to the Medical Student Coordinator no later than the 2nd day of the rotation:

    1. Pre-clerkship Medical Ability Perception Evaluation

    2. Student Information Sheet


  2. Your rotation schedule is located in your packet.

    1. Provide each physician with whom you work a copy of the 'Family Medicine Clerkship Evaluation' card.


  3. Attend Morning Report daily at 7:30 a.m.

    1. You are required to present one case in morning report. Coordinate this presentation with one of the Chief Residents.


  4. Attend PT weekly, except for family medicine inpatient team (FMIT) week.

    1. Meet with Chief Residents for time and location


  5. Attend Thursday morning CME 8 a.m. - Noon (12 p.m.)

    1. You will attend the PGY1 small groups (if applicable) at 11 a.m.


  6. Attend the after clinic conference held daily, except Fridays, in the library at 4:15 p.m.

    1. Not required while on Family Medicine Inpatient Team (FMIT) week


  7. Complete one night of call with a family medicine resident, either with the FMIT or Labor and Delivery Night Float.

    1. Coordinate with the senior resident on that service as to time/date and location.


  8. Spend one week with the FMIT

    1. Coordinate with the senior resident on the FMIT as to time/location for starting on Sunday morning.


  9. Complete the family study

    1. Select the family early in this rotation.

    2. Coordinate with Departmental Behavioral Scientist the exact details of visit and the required report – refer to packet for date/time scheduled

    3. Coordinate presentation time/date with either the Chief Residents or Medical Student Coordinator – to be presented during after clinic conference.

    4. Submit the PASS-C to the Medical Student Coordinator on the final day of the rotation (USUHS students).


  10. Attend one behavioral science lecture (see resident information board for topics) held M-W in the classroom. See Resident board for date/time/topic.

    1. You may attend any year group/lecture except for RD sensing sessions and Balint sessions


  11. Maintain a patient log for review by the Medical Student Coordinator.


  12. Expect Mid and End of Rotation formal feedback and requests for feedback on your experience at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.
