Overview

mom, dad and new baby

The MBU in Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center is a 26 bed unit that supports exclusive couplet care. The mother and infant will remain together in the same room throughout the duration of hospitalization.

The unit has open visitation hours and family members are welcome at any time of the day or night. Visitation is not allowed for:

  • Children less than 12 years of age who are not siblings
  • Children who have colds or viruses

The postpartum patient is normally discharged 24-48 hours after an uncomplicated vaginal delivery as long as the newborn is feeding well and does not need any further medical intervention. A post-surgical cesarean section patient is normally discharged at 48 hours.
