Overview

back pain

The Orthopaedic and spine surgery clinic provides surgical consultation and treatment of most musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. The subspecialties available include hand surgery, spine surgery, joint replacement, and sports medicine. Although there is not a pediatric Orthopaedic surgeon on staff, all surgeons are board certified in Orthopaedic surgery and able to manage pediatric fractures and other pediatric musculoskeletal conditions. Additionally, no neurosurgical procedures are performed by our spine surgeons at Darnall Army Medical Center, including brain surgery. Spine surgery is limited to cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral disease processes.

All patients that are seen in this clinic require a consultation from the emergency department, primary care providers, or other subspecialties. The goal of care is to assess patients for surgical candidacy and either ultimately provide a surgical intervention or return them to their primary care provider for continued non-operative management. For active duty soldiers, if surgery is not indicated, and injury prevents execution of duties and responsibilities in your MOS, a medical board is typically recommended.

back pain

Although the Orthopaedic and spine surgery clinic prioritizes active duty soldiers first, it is our goal to provide total care to all beneficiaries residing in the Fort Hood service area. Our clinic is the busiest surgical clinic and we perform the largest volume of surgeries at Fort Hood. Our focus is on ensuring your patient experience is polite, professional, timely, complete, and excellent. You will no doubt be asked in many forms to provide feedback directly to our clinic or to the hospital command. Please take the time to provide this very important information whenever asked, despite repetition. Our facility cannot improve unless you communicate with us. Keep in mind that satisfactory comments are just as important as dissatisfactory ones.

Finally, we look forward to seeing you in our clinic and ultimately hope that you do not require surgery. If surgery is indicated, you are in the hands of the best trained Orthopaedic and spine surgeons in the country. Very few surgeons get to experience war surgery, and all of our Orthopaedic surgeons have been deployed. Take care and be well.
