The Department of Pathology (laboratory) provides clinical laboratory, diagnostic testing and anatomical pathology services for Darnall Army Medical Center and its outlying clinics. It is also a training site for Phase II Medical Laboratory Technicians from the Army Medical Department Center & School at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
On a typical workday, approximately 200-300 patients are seen in the main laboratory and its outlying clinic laboratories for testing and specimen collections. Additionally, ward round services are provided Monday through Friday at 6:00 a.m.
Patient Reception & Phlebotomy
- Providers enter requested tests into an electronic database.
- Eligibility to receive tests is verified by the Military ID card.
- Labels for tests are electronically generated based on information entered by providers.
- Laboratory requests from Civilian Providers.
- Patients must obtain an Eligibility Statement from the Outpatient Medical Record Branch.
- Civilian test requests are stamped with a DEERS Eligibility Stamp.
The Department of Pathology is accredited by the College of American Pathologist (CAP),
as well as the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). It is also registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
