Patients may request digital copies of their radiology images from the Department of Radiology. The radiology file room personnel can burn radiology studies to a CD. However, each request is handled on a case-by-case basis. CRDAMC no longer prints film.

The Department of Radiology at CRDAMC operates in a totally filmless environment. Darnall has the capability to transmit electronic images via the Digital Imaging Network Picture Archiving Communication System (DIN-PAC). This capability eliminates the need to manually file, retrieve, or transport film jackets.

PACS is a Picture Archive Communication System that consists of radiology image acquisition devices, storage archiving units, display stations, computer processors, and database management systems. These components are integrated by a communications network system and all radiology images are made available for network viewing. Combined with available and emerging web technology, PACS has the ability to deliver timely and efficient access to images, interpretations, and related data. PACS breaks down the physical and time barriers associated with traditional film-based image retrieval, distribution, and display.
