The Russell Collier Health Clinic was built as a replacement facility for the Copperas Cove Clinic and Troop Medical Clinic #10 to provide quality, state-of-the-art outpatient medical care for Soldiers and military families living within the West Fort Hood area.
When the clinic opened in November 2008, it supported the 504th Military Intelligence Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division and other III Corps support function units.
The clinic cost $9.7 million and took approximately two years to build. Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony March 3, 2009, to open the clinic.
Today, it houses 30,000 square feet of new medical services, nearly double the space of the two previous clinics combined (15,974 sq. ft.). Health care services include comprehensive troop and family care, aviation medicine, immunizations, pathology, pharmacy, radiology, optometry and administrative support services. It is also designed to maximize the use of digital telemedicine. It has the capacity for 15,000 enrollees.
The Russell Collier Health Clinic is an aesthetically pleasing building, compatible and complimentary to the existing architectural context of the area, and it provides interior spaces that are functional and efficiently arranged to serve the primary health care needs of its beneficiaries.
Since opening in 2008, the Russell Collier Health Clinic has provided more than 104,388 patient encounters and earned more than $6 million in revenue.
The staff of 75 personnel includes family physicians, pediatricians, flight surgeons, nurse practitioners, aero-medical physician assistants and physician assistants to provide health care services. The staff of nine doctors and PAs care for active duty Soldiers and families, and a staff of eight nurse case managers augment the nursing staff. Administrative personnel make up the rest of the staff.
The location at West Fort Hood is indicative of the connection to an aviation theme; the hallways are named Apache, Blackhawk, Cobra and Chinook.
The Russell Collier Health Clinic provides quality health care and has increased access for Soldiers and families near where they live and work.
