Overview

2 Doctors performing surgery

Same Day Surgery is comprised of both preoperative and day of surgery care and is therefore divided into two primary teams, Surgical Processing and the Ambulatory Procedure Unit. Nursing care is provided on a 22-bed unit to provide same-day surgical services and outpatient procedures. Nursing care focuses on patients with minor operative procedures with a short recovery period of one to four hours.

The Surgical Processing Center is staffed by medical support assistants, registered nurses and anesthesia providers. Appointments are scheduled 1-3 days prior to the scheduled surgical procedure. These appointments take 2 - 3 hours so plan accordingly. Tests such as, X-Rays, Labs, and EKG, that your physician has requested, will be completed at this time. During this visit we will complete initial assessments, preoperative processing and coordinating care with other services as needed.

The Ambulatory Procedure Unit (APU), composed of the nurses and support personnel who check patients in, prepare them for surgery and provide Phase II recovery after their surgical procedure. Patients are then given their discharge instructions and prepared for discharge.
