  • Three Year (EM1-2-3) Categorical Program. Fully accredited by ACGME
  • Located in central Texas, north of Austin
  • Ten residents per class


  • Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC) primary teaching site
    • High volume emergency department with over 75,000 visits per year
    • Brand new state of the art 60-bed emergency department, the largest in the Dept. of Defense
    • Texas A&M College of Medicine clinical teaching facility

  • Full–time, EM–trained, board certified or board eligible faculty.
  • Military faculty possess extensive operational and combat experience, with most having deployed in various capacities, including Forward Surgical Resuscitative Teams, Battalion and Brigade surgeons, combat support hospitals and special operations.
  • Contract faculty physicians with extensive experience outside of the military health system.
  • Multiple oral board trainers for the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
  • One oral board examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
  • Multiple fellowship trained staff to include;
    • 2 pediatric EM, 1 Critical Care, and 5 Ultrasound


  • Unopposed residency. No competition for procedures or management of trauma patients.
  • Consistently some of the highest in-service training exam scores in the nation.
  • Strong didactic program with oral boards based morning report four days a week and five hours of lecture for weekly grand rounds.
  • Active research program with dedicated Research Director provides opportunities to publish and past residents have had numerous national conference presentations, including poster presentations and the annual SAEM CPC competition
  • Semiannual cadaver–based procedure lab and advanced airway management course.
  • Weekly simulator lab with elaborate 4-bed simulation center with some of the most advanced mannequin patient simulators available.
  • Robust ultrasound program with formal didactics and one month of ultrasound experience during the first year of residency, including time spent in radiology and echocardiography.
  • One of the few residencies in the nation to offer Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS) program as a part of the core residency curriculum.
  • BLS, ATLS, ACLS and PALS provided for first–year residents.
  • Monthly journal clubs focusing on current evidence based medicine and research concepts.
  • Capstone multiday military medicine field scenario experience for graduating seniors.
